Description:
Necessary for the fragmentation of Golgi stacks during mitosis and for their reassembly after mitosis. Involved in the formation of the transitional endoplasmic reticulum (tER). The transfer of membranes from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus occurs via 50-70 nm transition vesicles which derive from part-rough, part-smooth transitional elements of the endoplasmic reticulum (tER). Vesicle budding from the tER is an ATP-dependent process. The ternary complex containing UFD1L, VCP and NPLOC4 binds ubiquitinated proteins and is necessary for the export of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytoplasm, where they are degraded by the proteasome. The NPLOC4-UFD1L-VCP complex regulates spindle disassembly at the end of mitosis and is necessary for the formation of a closed nuclear envelope. Regulates E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity of RNF19A. Component of the VCP/p97-AMFR/gp78 complex that participates in the final step of the sterol-mediated ubiquitination and endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) of HMGCR. Also involved in DNA damage response: recruited to double-strand breaks (DSBs) sites in a RNF8- and RNF168-dependent manner and promotes the recruitment of TP53BP1 at DNA damage sites. Recruited to stalled replication forks by SPRTN: may act by mediating extraction of DNA polymerase eta (POLH) to prevent excessive translesion DNA synthesis and limit the incidence of mutations induced by DNA damage. Required for cytoplasmic retrotranslocation of stressed/damaged mitochondrial outer-membrane proteins and their subsequent proteasomal degradation.

The protein encoded by this gene is an antigen that is overexpressed in many cancers but that is also expressed in normal testis. This gene is found in a duplicated region of the X-chromosome and therefore has a neighboring gene of identical sequence. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

Description:
One of the major pre-mRNA-binding proteins. Binds tenaciously to poly(C) sequences. Likely to play a role in the nuclear metabolism of hnRNAs, particularly for pre-mRNAs that contain cytidine-rich sequences. Can also bind poly(C) single-stranded DNA. Plays an important role in p53/TP53 response to DNA damage, acting at the level of both transcription activation and repression. When sumoylated, acts as a transcriptional coactivator of p53/TP53, playing a role in p21/CDKN1A and 14-3-3 sigma/SFN induction (By similarity). As far as transcription repression is concerned, acts by interacting with long intergenic RNA p21 (lincRNA-p21), a non-coding RNA induced by p53/TP53. This interaction is necessary for the induction of apoptosis, but not cell cycle arrest.

Description:
Death Associated Protein 5 (DAP5) is a 97 kDa protein with high amino acid sequence homology to Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4G (eIF4G). Compared with eIF4G, DAP5 lacks the N-terminal region necessary for cap-dependent translation and has a unique C-terminal part functioning as a regulator for interferon-gamma induced cell death. During apoptosis, DAP5 is cleaved at Asp790. The C-terminal truncated form of DAP5 functions as a cap-independent translation initiation factor responsible for the mediation of its own translation during apoptosis.

Description:
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a protein family of transmembrane receptors that transmit an extracellular signal (ligand binding) into an intracellular signal (G protein activation). GPR signaling is an evolutionarily ancient mechanism used by all eukaryotes to sense environmental stimuli and mediate cell-cell communication. All of the receptors have seven membrane-spanning domains and the extracellular parts of the receptor can be glycosylated. These extracellular loops also contain two highly conserved cysteine residues which create disulfide bonds to stabilize the receptor structure. GPR103 is a 455-amino acid protein with highest expression in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, GPR103 is expressed only in the heart, kidney and testis. GPR103 may regulate adrenal function. A hypothalamic neuropeptide of the RFamide family (26RFa) acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.

Description:
GPCR2037 is a G protein-coupled receptor that undergoes weak activation by Galanin and is most abundant in the central nervous system (CNS), where it appears to be critical for development. During embryonal development the expression of GPCR2037 is widespread in the nervous system (dorsal thalamus, striatum, locus coeruleus and hindbrain nuclei). GPCR2037 in the CNS of 7- and 15-day-old mouse embryos can localize to the habenular complex. Low levels of GPCR2037 are detectable in testis, liver, kidney and stomach. In addition to GPCR2037, Galanin mediates its effects through receptor subtypes GALR1, 2 and 3. Galanin ligand exerts anxiolytic actions via GALR receptors under conditions of high stress. Galanin coexists with norepinephrine and serotonin in neural systems that mediate emotion.

Description:
This gene encodes the folylpolyglutamate synthetase enzyme. This enzyme has a central role in establishing and maintaining both cytosolic and mitochondrial folylpolyglutamate concentrations and, therefore, is essential for folate homeostasis and the survival of proliferating cells. This enzyme catalyzes the ATP-dependent addition of glutamate moieties to folate and folate derivatives. While several transcript variants may exist for this gene, the full-length natures of only two have been biologically validated to date. These two variants encode distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description:
FKBP8 is an immunophilin family member lacking PPIase/arotamase activity that influences immunoregulation, protein folding and trafficking in neurons associated with memory function. The FKBPr38 form derives from a truncated ORF. Presenilin 1 and 2 form molecular complexes withæ¢nd promote degradation ofæ¡KBPr38, and Bcl-2, and sequester these proteins in ER/Golgi, thereby inhibiting FKBPr38-mediated, ?secretase-independent, mitochondrial targeting of Bcl-2. FKBP8 present in the central nervous system can antagonize hedgehog (HH) signaling, where HH is critical for patterning and growth of many tissues in the developing embryo. Mouse FKBPr38 mRNA is present in neurons and glial cells and appears more pronounced in neurons associated with the hippocampal formation in adult mouse brains.
