Description:   Lon Protease, is a member of the Lon protease family. They are found in archaea, bacteria and eukaryotes. Lon protease is ATP-dependent serine protease that mediates the selective degradation of mutant and abnormal proteins as well as certain short-lived regulatory proteins, including some antitoxins. It required for cellular homeostasis and for survival from DNA damage and developmental changes induced by stress. It degrades polypeptides processively to yield small peptide fragments that are 5 to 10 amino acids long and binds to DNA in a double-stranded, site-specific manner. Endogenous substrates include the regulatory proteins RcsA and SulA, the transcriptional activator SoxS, and UmuD. Its overproduction specifically inhibits translation through at least two different pathways, one of them being the YoeB-YefM toxin-antitoxin system.

Description:   E3 Ubiquitin-Protein Ligase CHIP is a cytoplasmic protein. CHIP is highly expressed in skeletal muscle, heart, pancreas, brain and placenta. CHIP interacts with the molecular chaperones Hsc70-Hsp70 and Hsp90 through its TPR domain; lead to in client substrate ubiquitylation and degradation by the proteasome. CHIP targets misfolded chaperone substrates towards proteasomal degradation. CHIP mediates transfer of non-canonical short ubiquitin chains to HSPA8 that have no effect on HSPA8 degradation. CHIP plays a role in base-excision repair: catalyzes polyubiquitination by amplifying the HUWE1/ARF-BP1-dependent monoubiquitination and leading to POLB-degradation by the proteasome. It also may regulate the receptor stability and activity through proteasomal degradation.

Description:   beta -Defensin 4A is a membrane-active cationic peptide that functions in inflammation and innate immune responses. There are at least 30 beta -Defensins, which are distinguished from alpha-Defensins by the connectivity pattern of their three intermolecular disulfide bonds. Members of the Defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence. This gene encodes Defensin, DEFB4;, which has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and may play an important role in innate epithelial defense. They are highly expressed in skin and tonsils, and to a lesser extent in trachea, uterus, kidney, thymus, adenoid, pharynx and tongue. beta -Defensin 4A has low expression in salivary gland, bone marrow, colon, stomach, polyp and larynx. No expression in small intestine. The 45 amino acid mature human BD3 shares 38% and 33% amino acid sequence identity with mouse and rat BD3, respectively.
