Description:   Most upstream protease of the activation cascade of caspases responsible for the TNFRSF6/FAS mediated and TNFRSF1A induced cell death. Binding to the adapter molecule FADD recruits it to either receptor. The resulting aggregate called death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) performs CASP8 proteolytic activation. The active dimeric enzyme is then liberated from the DISC and free to activate downstream apoptotic proteases. Proteolytic fragments of the N-terminal propeptide (termed CAP3, CAP5 and CAP6) are likely retained in the DISC. Cleaves and activates CASP3, CASP4, CASP6, CASP7, CASP9 and CASP10. May participate in the GZMB apoptotic pathways. Cleaves ADPRT. Hydrolyzes the small-molecule substrate, Ac-Asp-Glu-Val-Asp-|-AMC. Likely target for the cowpox virus CRMA death inhibitory protein. Isoform 5, isoform 6, isoform 7 and isoform 8 lack the catalytic site and may interfere with the pro-apoptotic activity of the complex.

Description:   Pentraxin 3 (PTX3), a member of the pentraxin family, is referred to as a long pentraxin and contains a unique PTX3 domain not found in C-reactive protein (CRP) or (Serum Amyloid P component) SAP. In contrast to CRP, PTX3 is produced from the major cell types involved in atherosclerotic lesions, namely vascular endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, macrophages, and nutrophils in response to inflammatory stimuli. Moreover, CRP is produced by the liver and represents a systemic response to local inflammation, whereas PTX3 is rapidly produced directly from damaged tissues and directly reflects the inflammatory state of the vasculature. PTX3 levels have been reported to be significantly elevated in acute myocardial infarction, and accordingly, statin treatment significantly decreases PTX3 levels. Due to the fact that PTX3 is able to reflect acute coronary syndrome (ACS) condition better than CRP, it is highly possible that PTX3 is a superior biomarker to predict future cardiovascular events.

Description:   BAPX1 Antibody: BAPX1 is the mammalian homolog of the Drosophila bagpipe homeobox gene and is expressed in the splanchnic mesoderm and embryonic skeleton. It is one of the earliest developmental markers for the sclerotome portion of the somite and the gut mesentery. BAPX1 is required for normal skeletal development; homozygous inactivating mutations in the BAPX1 gene result in spodylo-megaepiphyseal-metaphyseal dysplasia (SMMD). It has also been suggested to play a role in the proper development of the mammalian gut and is required for distal stomach development as part of a BARX1-dependent pathway.

Description:   Homeobox proteins are transcription factors notable for their ability to regulate embryogenesis. The reproductive homeobox proteins (Rhox) are expressed in a cell type-specific manner; several are hormonally regulated, and their expression pattern during postnatal testis development corresponds to their chromosomal position. Most of the Rhox proteins are expressed in Sertoli cells, the nurse cells in direct contact with developing male germ cells, suggesting that they regulate the expression of somatic-cell gene products critical for germ cell development.

Description:   BARX1 belongs to the Bar subclass of the homeobox gene family. The function of this gene has not yet been determined; however, studies in the mouse and chick homolog suggest a role in developing teeth and craniofacial mesenchyme of neural crest origin. The role of these homologs implicates the human gene as a candidate for unmapped disorders involving tooth and jaw development.
