Leukocyte Immunoglobulin-Like Receptor Subfamily A Member 2 (LILRA2) is a single-pass type I membrane protein. LILRA2 is expressed predominantly on monocytes and B cells, and at lower levels on dendritic cells and natural killer cells. LILRA2 contains four Ig-like C2-type domains, with short cytoplasmic domains lacking an immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif (ITIM) and with transmembrane regions containing a charged arginine residue, may initiate stimulatory cascades. LILRA2 does not bind class I MHC antigens.

The substrate-specific O-sulfation generates an enzyme-modified heparan sulfate which acts as a binding receptor to Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) and permits its entry. It contains ten LRR (leucine-rich) repeats, one LRRCT domain, and one LRRNT domain. LRRTM2 is expressed in neuronal tissues, and it interacts with DLG4 and NRXN1. LRRTM2 has been suggested to be involved in the development and maintenance of excitatory synapses in the vertebrate nervous system. LRRTM2 also regulates the surface expression of AMPA receptors. Amphiregulin (AREG) is a single-pass membrane protein with 252 amino acids. AREG belongs to the amphiregulin family, which contains 1 EGF-like domain. AREG is expressed in a variety of tissues including ovary, placenta, lung, kidney, stomach, colon, and breast. It is related to Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and Transforming Growth Factor Alpha (TGF-alpha). As an EGF-related growth factor, AREG interacts with the EGF/TGF-alpha receptor to promote the growth of normal epithelial cells and inhibits the growth of certain aggressive carcinoma cell lines. AREG may also play a protective role in Bleomycin-Induced Pneumopathy.

Low affinity immunoglobulin gamma Fc region receptor II (CD32B) is a single-pass type I membrane protein and contains 2 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. The inhibitory CD32B is expressed on B cells and myeloid dendritic cells. Ligation of CD32B on B cells downregulates antibody production and may, in some circumstances, promote apoptosis. The OKT4 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to the CD4 receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). CD4 is a 59 kDa single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein that expressed on the surface of most of the thymocytes, T-helper cells, and in low levels on monocytes and macrophages. CD4 is a co-receptor in the antigen-induced T cell activation (together with the MHC class II). The OKT4 and the RPA-T4 monoclonal antibodies recognize different epitopes of CD4 and they do not exhibit cross-block binding.

This gene is one of several genes encoding pulmonary-surfactant associated proteins (SFTPA) located on chromosome 10. Mutations in this gene and a highly similar gene located nearby, which affect the highly conserved carbohydrate recognition domain, are associated with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The current version of the assembly displays only a single centromeric SFTPA gene pair rather than the two gene pairs shown in the previous assembly which were thought to have resulted from a duplication.
