T-cell surface antigen CD2 is also known as Erythrocyte receptor, LFA-2, LFA-3 receptor, Rosette receptor, T-cell surface antigen T11/Leu-5. It is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD2 gene. It is a single-pass type I membrane protein. contains 1 Ig-like C2-type domain and 1 Ig-like V-type domain. T-cell surface antigen CD2 interacts with lymphocyte function-associated antigen (LFA-3) and CD48/BCM1 to mediate adhesion between T-cells and other cell types. It is implicated in the triggering of T-cells, the cytoplasmic domain is implicated in the signaling function.

Protein Delta Homolog 1 (DLK-1) is a transmembrane protein which contains a signal peptide, an extracellular domain with six tandem epidermai growth factor (EGF)-like domains, a single pass transmembrane domain, and a short cytoplasmic tail. It is found within the stromal cells in close contact to the vascular structure of placental villi, yolk sac, fetal liver, adrenal cortex and pancreas and in the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the adult pancreas. In addition, it is detected in some forms of neuroendocrine lung tumor tissue. DLK-1 may have a improtant role in neuroendocrine differentiation.

Description:
Three isoforms of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) are produced by differential splicing of the RNA transcript from a single gene. The 135 kDa isoform is the basic molecule, which is glycosylated or sialylated to produce the mature species. Anti-CD56 recognises two proteins of the neural cell adhesion molecule, the basic molecule expressed on most neuroectodermally derived tissues and neoplasms (e.g. retinoblastoma, medulloblastomas, astrocytomas, neuroblastomas, and small cell carcinomas). It is also expressed on some mesodermally derived tumors (rhabdomyosarcoma). Anti-CD56 plays an important role in the diagnosis of nodal and nasal NK/T-cell lymphomas.

RBMS1 is a member of a small family of proteins which bind single stranded DNA/RNA. These proteins are characterized by the presence of two sets of ribonucleoprotein consensus sequence (RNP-CS) that contain conserved motifs, RNP1 and RNP2, originally described in RNA binding proteins, and required for DNA binding. These proteins have been implicated in such diverse functions as DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression and apoptosis.This gene encodes a member of a small family of proteins which bind single stranded DNA/RNA. These proteins are characterized by the presence of two sets of ribonucleoprotein consensus sequence (RNP-CS) that contain conserved motifs, RNP1 and RNP2, originally described in RNA binding proteins, and required for DNA binding. These proteins have been implicated in such diverse functions as DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression and apoptosis. Multiple transcript variants, resulting from alternative splicing and encoding different isoforms, have been described. Several of these were isolated by virtue of their binding to either strand of an upstream element of c-myc (MSSPs), or by phenotypic complementation of cdc2 and cdc13 mutants of yeast (scr2), or as a potential human repressor of HIV-1 and ILR-2 alpha promoter transcription (YC1). A pseudogene for this locus is found on chromosome 12.

MAB1B1 is a single-pass type II membrane protein and widely expressed in many tissues. MAB1B1 is involved in glycoprotein quality control targeting of misfolded glycoproteins for degradation. MAB1B1 can be inhibited by both 1-deoxymannojirimycin (dMNJ) and kifunensine. Defects in MAN1B1 are the cause of mental retardation autosomal recessive type 15 (MRT15). Mental retardation is characterised by significantly below average general intellectual functioning, it is also associated with impairments in adaptative behavior and manifested during the developmental period.

Interleukin 2 (IL2) is a secreted cytokine that is important for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The receptor of this cytokine is a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL4) and interleukin 7 (IL7). The expression of this gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a similar gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis like disease, which suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli. IL2 has been shown to have antitumor effects in some studies. This is probably mediated by cytotoxic effector cells.
