Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4) is also known as WAP four-disulfide core domain protein 2 (WFDC2), Epididymal secretory protein E4, Major epididymis-specific protein E4, Putative protease inhibitor WAP5, is a member of the WFDC domain family. HE4 / WFDC2 is expressed in pulmonary epithelial cells, and was also found to be expressed in some ovarian cancers. The WFDC domain, or WAP Signature motif, contains eight cysteines forming four disulfide bonds at the core of the protein, and functions as a protease inhibitor in many family members. HE4 is also a small secretory protein, which may be involved in sperm maturation.

As Major zinc transporter in plasma, HSA typically binds about 80% of all plasma zinc.A variant structure of albumin could lead to increased binding of zinc resulting in an asymptomatic augmentation of zinc concentration in the blood. Defects in serum albumin can cause familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia which is a form of euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia that is due to increased affinity of serum albumin for T4.It is the most common cause of inherited euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia in Caucasian population.

Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor Type-1A (BMPR1A) belongs to the TKL Ser/Thr protein kinase family and TGFB receptor subfamily, including the type I receptors BMPR1A and BMPR1B and the type II receptor BMPR2. Mouse Il10 is the prototypic member of the IL-10 cytokine family, including IL-10, IL-19, IL-20, IL-22 (IL-TIF), IL-24 and IL-26. Many viruses encode viral members of the IL-10 family, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV).Its main function is inhibiting the synthesis of a number of cytokines, including IFN-gamma, IL-2, IL-3, TNF and GM-CSF produced by activated macrophages and by helper T-cells. Although human and mouse IL-10 are 81% identical at the nucleotide and amino acid level, mouse IL-10 is species-specific and does not act on human cells. Interestingly, Human IL-10 is active on mouse cells.

Mouse CCL24 is a secreted protein, which is a member of the CC chemokine subfamily. Mouse Ccl24 cDNA encodes a 119 amino acid residue precursor protein, shares approximately 58% amino acid sequence identity with human Ccl24. It is predominantly expressed in the jejunum and spleen and also be induced in the lung by allergen challengeand IL4. Mouse ccl24 has lower chemotactic activity for neutrophils but none for monocytes and activated lymphocytes. Ccl24 is chemotactic for resting T-lymphocytes, eosinophils and can bind to CCR3. LPS and IL4 also differentially regulate the expression of Ccl24 in monocytes and macrophages.

Mouse Cxcl12 is a secreted and highly conserved protein which belongs to the intercrine alpha (chemokine CxC) family.CXCL12 is widely expressed in various organs including brain, kidney, skeletal muscle, heart, liver, and lymphoid organs. Cxcl12 activates the C-X-C chemokine receptor CXCR4 to induce a rapid and transient rise in the level of intracellular calcium ions and chemotaxis. It also binds to atypical chemokine receptor ACKR3 which activates the beta-arrestin pathway and acts as a scavenger receptor for SDF-1. Cxcl12 has several critical functions during embryonic development such as B-cell lymphopoiesis, myelopoiesis in bone marrow and heart ventricular septum formation. Cxcl12 plays an important role in acting as a positive regulator of monocyte migration and a negative regulator of monocyte adhesion via the LYN kinase. It stimulates migration of monocytes and T-lymphocytes through its receptors, CXCR4 and ACKR3, and decreases monocyte adherence to surfaces coated with ICAM-1, a ligand for beta-2 integrins. SDF1A/CXCR4 signaling axis inhibits beta-2 integrin LFA-1 mediated adhesion of monocytes to ICAM-1 through LYN kinase. It also plays a protective role after myocardial infarction, induces down-regulation and internalization of ACKR3 expressed in various cells and stimulates the proliferation of bone marrow-derived b progenitor cells in the presence of IL-7 as well as growth of the stromal cell-dependent B-cell clone DW34 cells.
