Description:
The actions of the octapeptide circulatory hormone angiotensin II are mediated by type one (AT1) and type two (AT2) angiotensin II receptors, members of the seven-transmembrane domain-containing GPCR family. AT1 expression is greatest in vascular smooth muscle, liver, kidney, adrenal cortex, brain, and lung, and is primarily responsible for the physiological effects of angiotensin II in cardiovascular homeostasis. The AT2 receptor displays approximately 30% identity to the AT1 receptor, and is highly expressed during embryonic development. AT2 expression in adult tissue is limited to the adrenal medulla, brain, and reproductive tissues, but is upregulated in injured tissue following myocardial infarction, vascular injury, and wound healing.

Description:
The β-amyloid peptide (β A4), proteolytically released from the amyloid precursor protein (APP), provides the principal component of senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease. Cleavage of APP by α-secretase or alternatively by β-secretase leads to generation and extracellular release of soluble APP peptides, S-APP-α and S-APP-β, respectively, and the retention of corresponding membrane-anchored C-terminal fragments, C83 and C99. Subsequent processing of C83 by γ-secretase yields P3 peptides. This is the major secretory pathway and is nonamyloidogenic. Alternatively, presenilin/ nicastrin-mediated γ-secretase processing of C99 releases the amyloid β proteins, amyloid-β 40 (Aβ40) and amyloid-β 42 (Aβ42), major components of amyloid plaques, and the cytotoxic C-terminal fragments, γ-CTF(50), γ-CTF(57) and γ-CTF(59).

Description:
Ghrelin is a multifunctional peptide hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary known to affect many physiological processes including the release of growth hormone, appetite regulation, gastric acid secretion, gastrointestinal motility, and blood pressure regulation. The 28 amino acid ghrelin peptide is modified at Ser3 by addition of a fatty acid group (i.e., n-octanoyl) that is essential for its biological activity. The ghrelin receptor (GHS-R) is a seven transmembrane (7-TM) GPCR that is expressed in the hippocampus, pituitary, and hypothalamus, as well as in peripheral tissues including the heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, intestines, and immune cells. Ghrelin signals are primarily relayed via coupling of the GHS-R to Gq/11 alpha subunits, promoting stimulation of phospholipase C, and an increase in intracellular calcium. Stimulation of adenylyl cyclases and increased cAMP are also induced by GHS-R activation. In humans and swine, two splice variants of the ghrelin receptor are expressed from the same gene. The GHS-R 1(a) receptor is the 366 amino acid, 7-TM form, while GHS-R 1(b) is a 289 amino acid, 5-TM form that is truncated at the C-terminus and is pharmacologically inactive. The epitope recognized by this antibody is unaffected by alternative splicing.
