Mcl-1 Antibody: Myeloid cell leukimia-1 (Mcl-1) is a member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins that can act to promote cell survival. While the mechanism by which Mcl-1 inhibits apoptosis is not known, it is thought that it may heterodimerize and neutralize pro-apoptotic members of the Bcl-2 family such as Bim or Bak. Mcl-1 was originally identified in differentiating myeloid cells, but has since been shown to be expressed in multiple cell types. Mcl-1 is essential for embryogenesis and for the development and maintenance of B and T lymphocytes in animals. Mcl-1 exists as at least two distinct isoforms designated Mcl-1L and Mcl-1S. In marked contrast to the larger isoform of Mcl-1, overexpression of Mcl-1S promotes cell death.

POU5F1 Antibody: POU5F1, also commonly known as Oct-4, is a maternally expressed octamer-binding protein that was the first transcription factor described for the early stages of development. The role of POU5F1 in embryonic development suggested that it might be useful in the creation of stem cells that might be useful in cell replacement therapies in the treatment of several degenerative diseases. Artificial stem cells, termed induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, can be created by expressing POU5F1 and the transcription factors Sox2, Klf4 and Lin28 along with c-Myc in mouse fibroblasts. More recently, experiments have demonstrated that iPS cells could be generated using expression plasmids expressing POU5F1, Sox2, KlfF4 and c-Myc, eliminating the need for virus introduction, thereby addressing a safety concern for potential use of iPS cells in regenerative medicine.

ARHGAP18 Antibody: ARHGAP18 is one member of the human RhoGAP family with approximately 80 RhoGAP proteins known to be encoded in the human genome. Rho proteins belong to the Ras superfamily that is composed of over 50 members divided into six families, including Ras, Sar, Rho, Ran, Rab and Arf. Rho GTPases are important regulators of the actin cytoskeleton and consequently influence the shape and migration of cells. ARHGAP18 is linked to Ras, and thus, to EGFR-mediated proliferation, migration and differentiation. ARHGAP18 is precisely contained within chromosome 6q22-24, which has been shown to be linked to schizophrenia, suggesting that ARHGEP18 may play a role in this condition.

In humans, two paralogs of the yeast protein have been identified. Functional studies indicate that both human paralogs associate with the endosomal compartments, and are involved in intracellular protein trafficking, similar to Vps4 protein in yeast.The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the AAA protein family (ATPases associated with diverse cellular activities), and is the homolog of the yeast Vps4 protein. In humans, two paralogs of the yeast protein have been identified. The former share a high degree of aa sequence similarity with each other, and also with yeast Vps4 and mouse Skd1 proteins. The mouse Skd1 (suppressor of K+ transport defect 1) has been shown to be really an yeast Vps4 ortholog. Functional studies indicate that both human paralogs associate with the endosomal compartments, and are involved in intracellular protein trafficking, similar to Vps4 protein in yeast. The gene encoding this paralog has been mapped to chromosome 16; the gene for the other resides on chromosome 18. One such protein is an essential, conserved WD repeat protein, NOP seven-associated protein 1 (NSA1), that is also required for the yeast 66S ribosome assembly.
