CDO1 (cysteine dioxygenase, type I) is a 200 amino acid protein that belongs to the cysteine dioxygenase family and is involved in organosulfur biosynthesis. Existing as a monomer and expressed at high levels in liver and placenta and at lower levels in brain, pancreas and heart, CDO1 functions as a dioxygenase that uses iron and zinc as cofactors to catalyze the conversion of L-cysteine and oxygen to 3-sulfinoalanine. Via its catalytic activity, CDO1 is involved in pyruvate-, sulfate- and taurine-related metabolic pathways and is a crucial regulator of cysteine concentrations within the cell. Human CDO1 shares 94% amino acid identity with its rat counterpart, suggesting a conserved role between species. The gene encoding CDO1 maps to human chromosome 5, which contains 181 million base pairs and comprises nearly 6% of the human genome. Chromogranins (secretogranins) are acidic glycoproteins that localize within secretory granules of endocrine, neuroendocrine and neuronal tissue. Family members include chromogranin A (Chr-A); chromogranin B (Chr-B), also known as secretogranin I; chromogranin C (also known as secretogranin II or Sg II); and secretogranin III (Sg III or SCG3). High levels of Chr-A expression are characteristic of neuroendocrine tumors. Pancreastatin is a peptide derived from Chr-A which inhibits insulin secretion, exocrine pancreatic secretion and gastric acid secretion. Pancreastatin exists as two forms; the major form is expressed in stomach and colon extracts. In neuroendocrine cells the level Sg II has been shown to increase four-fold in response to histamine, while levels of Chr-A and Chr-B showed little or no increase. Sg III is an acidic secretory protein expressed in neuronal and endocrine cells. In the anterior lobe of the rat pituitary gland, Sg III is present in mammotropes and thyrotropes, moderately in gonadotropes and corticotropes, though not in somatotropes. Sg III and carboxypeptidase E (CPE) bind specifically to cholesterol-rich secretory granule (SG) membranes.

2,2-Azino-bis-(3-ethyl-benzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) has been used as a chromogenic substrate for horseradish peroxidase (HRP), both in general activity assays and in ELISA applications. Activity of HRP using ABTS appears about four-fold higher than using pyrogallol. It is mainly used as a substrate in sensitive peroxidase assays.
2,2′-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) is a peroxidase substrate suitable for use in ELISA procedures. This substrate produces a soluble end product that is green in color and can be read spectrophotometrically at 405 nm. The reaction may be stopped with 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Recommended for ELISA (microwell) procedures, not recommended for membrane applications.

GBGT1 is a 347 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein that belongs to the glycosyltransferase 6 family. Localizing to the golgi apparatus membrane, GBGT1 is widely expressed, with high levels found in placenta, ovary and peripheral blood leukocyte, and lower levels expressed in liver, thymus and testis. GBGT1 utilizes manganese as a cofactor, and assists in the addition of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) in alpha-1,3-linkage to various substrates, resulting in the formation of glycolipids. Glycolipids are present in most eukaryotic cells and may assist in the adherence of certain pathogens.
