BCL2/Adenovirus E1B 19 kDa Protein-Iinteracting Protein 3 (BNIP3) is a single-pass membrane protein. BNIP3 is a member of the NIP3 family. BNIP3 contains a single Bcl-2 homology 3 domain and interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein. BNIP3 have been associated with pro-apoptotic function. BNIP3 is an apoptosis-inducing protein that can overcome BCL2 suppression. It plays a role in repartitioning calcium between the two major intracellular calcium stores in association with BCL2. Darcin (also called Mup20) belongs to the family of major urinary proteins (MUPs), a subfamily of proteins found in abundance in the urine. Like all MUPs, Darcin is a member of the lipocalin family of ligand-binding proteins, and preferentially binds the volatile pheromone (S)-2-sec-butyl-4,5-dihydrothiazole (SBT). Darcin is present in the urine of male and acts as a sex pheromone that elicits female sexual attraction to a male's urine scent. Recombinant Darcin shows similar activity compared to natural Darcin.

Adiponectin is a secreted protein. It is Synthesised exclusively by adipocytes and secreted into plasma. Adiponectin is an important adipokine that is involved in the control of fat metabolism and insulin sensitivity, with direct anti-diabetic, anti-atherogenic and anti-inflammatory activities. Adiponectin Stimulates AMPK phosphorylation and activates in the liver and the skeletal muscle, enhancing glucose utilisation and fatty-acid combustion. Adiponectin also antagonises TNF-alpha by negatively regulating its expression in various tissues such as liver and macrophages, and also by counteracting its effects. It inhibits endothelial NF-kappa-B signalling through a cAMP-dependent pathway. Adiponectin may play a role in cell growth, angiogenesis and tissue remodelling by binding and sequestering various growth factors with distinct binding affinities, depending on the type of complex: LMW, MMW or HMW.

IL-24 is a cytokine belonging to the IL-10 family of cytokines that signals through two heterodimeric receptors: IL-20R1/IL-20R2 and IL-22R1/IL-20R2. This interleukin is also known as melanoma differentiation-associated 7 (mda-7) due to its discovery as a tumour suppressing protein. IL-24 appears to control cell survival and proliferation by inducing rapid activation of particular transcription factors called STAT1 and STAT3. It is predominantly released by activated monocytes, macrophages and T helper 2 (Th2) cells and acts on non-haematopoietic tissues such as skin, lung and reproductive tissues. IL-24 performs important roles in wound healing, psoriasis and cancer. IL-24 has antiproliferative properties is inhibiting angiogenesis and may contribute to terminal cell differentiation.

OX40 binds to receptors on T-cells, preventing them from dying and subsequently increasing cytokine production. OX40 has a critical role in the maintenance of an immune response. OX40:Fc was shown to prevent OX40 from reaching the T-cell receptors, thus reducing the T-cell response. Experiments in mice have demonstrated that OX40:Fc can reduce the symptoms associated with the cytokine storm (an immune overreaction) while allowing the immune system to fight off the virus successfully.

BAFF is mainly produced by innate immune cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, follicular dendritic cells. T cells, activated B cells, some malignant B cells and also non-lymphoid cells like astrocytes, synoviocytes and epithelial cells can also produce BAFF. BAFF binds three distinct receptors (BAFF-R, TACI and BCMA) expressed predominantly on B cells, although activated T cells also express BAFF-R. BAFF is a master regulator of peripheral B cell survival, and together with IL-6, promotes Ig class-switching and plasma cell differentiation . Besides its major role in B cell biology, BAFF co-stimulates activated T cells. Deregulated expression of BAFF leads to autoimmune disorders in mice. In humans, elevated levels of soluble BAFF have been detected in the serum of patients with various autoimmune diseases, such as Sjögren’s syndrome , Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) , Multiple sclerosis (MS) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) . BAFF is also increased levels in some lymphoid cancers.

IL-12 is involved in the differentiation of naive T cells into Th1 cells. It is known as a T cell-stimulating factor, which can stimulate the growth and function of T cells. It stimulates the production of interferon-gamma (IFN- gamma ) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF- alpha) from T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, and reduces IL-4 mediated suppression of IFN- gamma . T cells that produce IL-12 have a coreceptor, CD30, which is associated with IL-12 activity. IL-12 plays an important role in the activities of natural killer cells and T lymphocytes. IL-12 mediates enhancement of the cytotoxic activity of NK cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
