Achieving Rapid LC-MS Analyses Using Avantor® ACE® HTP-MS Columns

Webinar

Thursday, 24th February, 2022
15:00 to 16:00 CET (Berlin, Paris, Madrid)

Replay

Achieving fast LC analyses is essential in high sample throughput laboratories, such as clinical, drug discovery and environmental labs. Over the last two decades, UHPLC has enabled many labs to dramatically increase sample throughput, through use of shorter columns packed with sub-2 micron particles. However, at the same time, the performance of modern mass spectrometers has continued to evolve. Improved sensitivity and ultra-fast data acquisition capabilities, provide opportunities to further reduce analytical run times, using specially designed, high throughput columns.

This webinar begins by discussing the concepts of how to develop high throughput LC-MS methods, before introducing the Avantor® ACE® HTP-MS column. The use of this column format to develop ultra-fast LC-MS analyses will be discussed, along with several key applications that demonstrate the advantages that can be realised. Finally, some of the challenges associated with rapid analysis will be discussed, including aspects of sample preparation and the impact the matrix can have on the detector.

Matt James

Matt James is a Senior Research Scientist at Avantor Sciences. Matt gained his PhD at University of Bristol, working on the analysis of archaeological samples and also worked within the pharmaceutical industry for a year. Over the last 11 years, he has worked within the Technical Support, Applications and R&D teams within Hichrom, now part of Avantor. Recent focuses have been HPLC/UHPLC method transfer and translation, the use of solid core phases, development of next generation LC stationary phases and the development of LC methods for key applications, such as the analysis of nitrosamines by LC-MS/MS. Matt has co-authored seven peer reviewed articles and presented work at several conferences.

Michael Donaldson

Michael Donaldson is a Technical Application Specialist at Avantor Sciences. He gained his PhD at University of Lancaster, working on pre-colum purification of food samples and then undertook post doctoral research in Singapore and at Cancer Research UK. He has worked within the pharmaceutical industry 15 years mainly in early phase discovery, formulation development and pre-clinical safety roles. Recent focuses have been LC-MS/MS method development with a focus on sample clean up and preparation for MS analysis. Michael has co-authored several peer reviewed articles and presented work conferences.
