Annexin V is an anticoagulant protein that acts as an indirect inhibitor of the thromboplastin-specific complex, which is involved in the blood coagulation cascade. Annexin V competes for phosphatidylserine binding sites (e. g. platelets) with prothrombin or coagulation factors and inhibits the activity of phospholipase A1. Antibodies directed against annexin V are found in patients with a disease called the antiphospholipid syndrome(APS), a thrombophilic disease associated with autoantibodies against phospholipid compounds. Annexin V is used as a probe in the 'annexin V affinity assay' to detect cells that have expressed phosphatidylserine on the cell surface, a feature found in apoptosis and other forms of cell death.

Transmembrane glycoprotein NMB (GPNMB) is also known as Transmembrane glycoprotein HGFIN, DC-HIL and Osteoactivin (OA), which belongs to the PMEL/NMB family. GPNMB contains one PKD domain. GPNMB is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is up-regulated in various cancer cells, including in glioblastoma multiforme and is expressed in many melanoma cells, as well as in tissue macrophages. GPNMB protein acts as a downstream mediator of BMP-2 effects on osteoblast differentiation and function. GPNMB participates in bone mineralization, and functions as a negative regulator of inflammation in macrophages.

TWEAK is a cytokine that controls proliferation, migration, differentiation, apoptosis, angiogenesis and inflammation. TWEAK binds to Fn14, a highly inducible cell-surface receptor that is linked to several intracellular signalling pathways, including the nuclear factor-B (NF-kappaB) pathway. High-mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1) is also known as high-mobility group protein 1 (HMG-1) and amphoterin, is a member of the HMGB family consisting of three members, HMGB1, HMGB2 and HMGB3. HMGB1 is a non-histone architectural chromosomal protein ubiquitously present in all vertebrate nuclei and binds double-stranded DNA without sequence specificity. The mechanism of inflammation and damage is binding to TLR4, which mediates HMGB1-dependent activation of macrophage cytokine release. This positions HMGB1 at the intersection of sterile and infectious inflammatory responses. HMGB1 has been studied as a DNA vaccine adjuvant and a target for cancer therapy.
