Description:
Fumarase is an enzyme that catalyze the reversible hydration/dehydration of fumarate to S-malate and is involved in the tricarboxylic acid or Krebs cycle. Fumarase exists in both form, cytosolic formand N-terminal extend mitochondrial form. The N-terminal extended form is targeted to the mitochondrion, where the removal of the extension is the same form as in the cytoplasm. Fumarase is thought to act as a tumour suppressor, which deficiency can lead to progressive encephalopathy, cerebral atrophy and development delay.

Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase (GGPS1) is a member of the FPP/GGPP synthase family. GGPS1 is highly expressed in testis, heart and skeletal muscle. GGPS1 is localised in the cytoplasm and has geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) synthase activity. It catalyses the trans-addition of the three molecules of IPP onto DMAPP to form geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate, an important precursor of carotenoids and geranylated proteins. Other transcriptional splice variants have been found.

Cystatin C is a member of family 2 of the cystatin superfamily. It is ubiquitous in human tissues and body fluids and mainly used as a biomarker of kidney function. Cystatin C inhibits many cysteine proteases such as papain and Cathepsins B, H, K, L and S. As an inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, Cystatin C is thought to serve an important physiological role as a local regulator of this enzyme activity. Recently, it has been studied for its role in predicting new-onset or deteriorating cardiovascular disease. It also seems to play a role in brain disorders involving amyloid (a specific type of protein deposition), such as Alzheimer's disease.

Description:
Human beta -Nerve Growth Factor ( beta -NGF) was initially isolated in the mouse submandibular gland. It is composed of three non-covalently linked subunits alpha, beta , and gamma ; it exhibits all the biological activities ascribed to NGF. It is structurally related to BDNF, NT-3 and NT-4 and belongs to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. beta -NGF is a neurotrophic factor that signals through its receptor beta -NGF, and plays a crucial role in the development and preservation of the sensory and sympathetic nervous systems. beta -NGF also acts as a growth and differentiation factor for B lymphocytes and enhances B-cell survival. These results suggest that beta -NGF is a pleiotropic cytokine, which in addition to its neurotropic activities may have an important role in the regulation of the immune system. Human beta -NGF shares 90% sequence similarity with mouse protein and shows cross-species reactivity.

Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (Nampt; pre-B cell colony-enhancing factor; PBEF; Visfatin) is an 52kDa adipokine secreted by adipose tissue and involved in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). Two forms of Nampt exist, an intracellular form (iNampt) and an extracellular form (eNampt). While the function of iNampt as an essential and rate-limiting NAD+ biosynthetic enzyme is well established, the physiological role of eNampt is still a matter of debate. Nampt has various functions, including the promotion of vascular smooth muscle cell maturation and inhibition of neutrophil apoptosis. It activates insulin receptor and has insulin-mimetic effects, lowering blood glucose and improving insulin sensitivity. The protein is highly expressed in visceral fat and serum levels of the protein correlate with obesity.

ENO1 encodes one of three enolase isoenzymes found in mammals; it encodes alpha-enolase, a homodimeric soluble enzyme, and also encodes a shorter monomeric structural lens protein, tau-crystallin. CHCHD6 Antibody: CHCHD6 is a member of a family of proteins containing a conserved (coiled coil 1)-(helix 1)-(coiled coil 2)-(helix 2) domain and has been observed in a complex with the mitochondrial proteins mitofilin, SAM50, metaxins 1 and 2, and CHCHD3. CHCHD6 knockdown causes severe defects in mitochondrial cristae morphology as well as reductions in cell growth, ATP production and oxygen consumption. This decrease of CHCHD6 also led to a reduction in mitofilin protein levels, while a knockdown of mitofilin resulted in a reduced level of CHCHD6, suggesting coordinate regulation between these two proteins. CHCHD6 knockdown in human cancer cells enhances their sensitivity to genotoxic anticancer drugs, suggesting that CHCHD6 may be a potential therapeutic anti-tumor target.

MTA1 encodes a protein that was identified in a screen for genes expressed in metastatic cells, specifically, mammary adenocarcinoma cell lines. Expression of this gene has been correlated with the metastatic potential of at least two types of carcinomas although it is also expressed in many normal tissues. The role it plays in metastasis is unclear. MTA1 was initially thought to be the 70kD component of a nucleosome remodeling deacetylase complex, NuRD, but it is more likely that this component is a different but very similar protein. These two proteins are so closely related, though, that they share the same types of domains. These domains include two DNA binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a domain commonly found in proteins that methylate DNA. The profile and activity of this gene product suggest that it is involved in regulating transcription and that this may be accomplished by chromatin remodeling.
