S100 calcium-binding protein P (S100P),a member of the S-100 family, is also known as protein S100-P, migration-inducing gene 9 protein (MIG9) and protein S100-E,which contains two EF-hand domains. As for subunit structure,S100P is homodimer and heterodimer with S100A1. S100P may function as calcium sensor and contribute to cellular calcium signaling. In a calcium-dependent manner, S100P functions by interacting with other proteins, such as EZR and PPP5C, and indirectly plays a role in physiological processes like the formation of microvilli in epithelial cells. Furthermore,S100P may stimulate cell proliferation in an autocrine manner via activation of the receptor for activated glycation end products (RAGE).

Serpin B9 belongs to the large superfamily of serine proteinase inhibitors (serpins), which bind to and inactivate serine proteinases. Serpin B9 is an inhibitor of the granzyme B/perforin lytic pathway. It is expressed in normal mammary epithelial cells but not in most mammary carcinoma cell lines. These interactions are involved in many cellular processes, including coagulation, fibrinolysis, complement fixation, matrix remodelling, and apoptosis.

Description:
Bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) is a member of the BMP subgroup of the TGF-beta superfamily. It plays a dominant role in embryonic dorsalventral patterning, organogenesis, limb bud formation and bone formation and regeneration. BMP-2 signals through heterodimeric complexes composed of a type I receptor (Activin RI, BMP-RIA or BMP-RIB) and a type II receptor (BMP-RII or Activin RIIB). BMP-2 induces chondrocyte proliferation, endochondral bone formation, longitudinal bone growth and bone and cartilage repair. It induces ectopic bone formation or calcification by promoting osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation in mesenchymal cells, stem cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. It also promotes the maintenance and repair of colonic epithelium, suppresses neuronal dopamine synthesis and release, induces apoptosis in medulloblastoma cells and is required for cardiac contractility.

CCL24 (eotaxin-2) has been shown to induce chemotaxis of eosinophils, basophils and resting T lymphocytes but not monocytes and activated T lymphocytes. CCL24 is a strong suppressor of colony formation by a multipotential hematopoietic progenitor cell line. CCL24 interacts with chemokine receptor CCR3 to induce chemotaxis in eosinophils. Elevated levels of CCL24 has been seen in patients with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), such as asthma.

CCL22 (C-C Motif Chemokine 22; Stimulated T cell chemotactic protein; STCP1) is a CC chemokine initially isolated from clones of monocyte-derived macrophages and binds to the receptor CCR4. Human CCL22 is highly expressed in macrophage and in monocyte-derived dendritic cells and thymus. It is also found in lymph node, appendix, activated monocytes, resting and activated macrophages. May play a role in the trafficking of activated/effector T lymphocytes to inflammatory sites and other aspects of activated T lymphocyte physiology. CCL22 has been shown to induce chemotaxis or Ca2+ mobilisation in dendritic cells, IL-2 activated NK cells and activated T lymphocytes.

CD44 is a cell-surface receptor for hyaluronic acid and also interacts with other ligands, such as osteopontin, collagens, and matrix metalloproteinases. A large number of CD44 isoforms can be generated by the insertion of different combinations of at least nine exons. Increased CD44 antigen is associated with relapses in non-small cell lung cancers. Furthermore, an increasing quantity of evidence suggests that CD44 has various functions related to inflammatory disease. CD44 deficiency induces severe liver injury. Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) comprise a family of endocrine, paracrine and autocrine polypeptides consisting of the ligands IGF1 and IGF2, two receptors (IGF1R, IGF2R), at least 6 IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) and IGFBP proteases. Among the binding proteins, IGFBP6 is unique because of its N-terminal disulphide linkages and its marked binding preference for IGF2. It is a potent inhibitor of the interaction between IGF2 and its receptor IGF1R, thus preventing major functions of IGF2, such as induction of proliferation, differentiation, cell adhesion, or colony formation. In particular, IGFBP-6 inhibited the growth of neuroblastoma and rhabdomyosarcoma xenografts. GFBP-6 is expressed in many tissues, including lung, liver, gut and the central nervous system.
