Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme E2 K (UBE2K) belongs to the E2 Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme family. UBE2K is highly expressed in the brain, with highest levels found in cortex and striatum, and at lower levels in cerebellum and brainstem. UBE2K may mediate foam cell formation by the suppression of apoptosis of lipid-bearing macrophages through ubiquitination and subsequence degradation of p53/TP53. UBE2K is associated with the selective degradation of short-lived and abnormal proteins, such as the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) of misfolded lumenal proteins. In addition, UBE2K is involved in Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease and antigen processing through its interaction with huntingtin, and MHC-heavy chain proteins.

Follitropin Subunit beta (FSHB) is a secreted protein that belongs to the glycoprotein hormones subunit beta family. The pituitary glycoprotein hormone family includes follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, chorionic gonadotropin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. FSHB exists in a heterodimer of a common alpha chain and an unique beta chain that confers biological specificity to thyrotropin, lutropin, follitropin, and gonadotropin. FSHB stimulates development of follicle and spermatogenesis in the reproductive organs. Defects in FSHB are a cause of isolated follicle-stimulating hormone deficiency (IFSHD).

Uroplakin-2 is a single-pass type I membrane protein that belongs to the uroplakin-2 family. Uroplakin-2 is a component of the asymmetric unit membrane (AUM) and expressed in the ureter, a highly specialized biomembrane elaborated by terminally differentiated urothelial cells. Uroplakin-2 forms heterodimer with UPK1A that is necessary for exiting out of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Uroplakin-2 may play an important role in regulating the assembly of the AUM. AUM is believed to strengthen the urothelium by preventing cell rupture during bladder distention.

CD79B is a single-pass type I membrane protein. CD79B contains one Ig-like V-type domain and one ITAM domain. CD79B is required in cooperation with CD79A for initiation of the signal transduction cascade activated by the B-cell antigen receptor complex (BCR), which leads to internalization of the complex, trafficking to late endosomes and antigen presentation. CD79B enhances phosphorylation of CD79A, possibly by recruiting kinases that phosphorylate CD79A or by recruiting proteins that bind to CD79A and protect it from dephosphorylation.

Cysteine-Rich with EGF-Like Domain Protein 2 (CRELD2) is a secreted protein that is a member of the CRELD family. Human CRELD2 is synthesized as a 353 amino acid precursor protein with a signal peptide, a highly conserved domain rich in glutamic acid and tryptophan (WE) and EGF-like repeats. CRELD2 is ubiquitously expressed in many tissues. CRELD2 may interact with CHRNA4 and regulate transport of alpha4- beta 2 neuronal acetylcholine receptor. In addition, CRELD2 could be a novel mediator in regulating the onset and progression of various ER stress-associated diseases.

Noggin is also known as NOG, SYM1, SYNS1 and is a secreted homodimeric glycoprotein whose scaffold contains a cystine-knot topology similar to that of BMPs.Secreted Noggin probably remains close to the cell surface due to its binding of heparincontaining proteoglycans.Noggin inhibits TGF-β signal transduction by binding to TGF-β family ligands and preventing them from binding to their corresponding receptors. Noggin plays a key role in neural induction by inhibiting BMP4, along with other TGF-β signaling inhibitors such as chordin and follistatin. Mouse knockout experiments have demonstrated that noggin also plays a crucial role in bone development, joint formation, and neural tube fusion. During embryogenesis, Noggin antagonizes specific BMPs at defined times, for example, during neural tube, somite and cardiomyocyte growth and patterning. During skeletal development, Noggin prevents chondrocyte hyperplasia, thus allowing proper formation of joints. During culture of human embryonic stem cells (hESC) or neural stem cells under certain conditions, addition of Noggin to antagonize BMP activity may allow stem cells to proliferate while maintaining their undifferentiated state, or alternatively, to differentiate into dopaminergic neurons Noggin also appears to maintain adult stem cell populations in vivo, for example, maintaining neural stem cells within the hippocampus.

Interleukin-18-binding protein (IL18BP) is also known as Tadekinig-alfa, IL18BPa, which functions as an IL18 inhibitor. IL18BP is a secreted protein which contains one Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain. IL18BP does not have a transmembrane domain and hence is not anchored to the cell membrane. IL18BP is strongly expressed in heart, lung, placenta and spleen. Isoform A of IL18BP binds to IL-18 and inhibits its activity. IL18BP also functions as an inhibitor of the early TH1 cytokine response. IL18BP suppresses the production of IFN-gamma resulting in reduced T-helper type 1 immune responses.
