Interferon Regulatory Factor 5 (IRF5) is a member of the IRF family. It contains one IRF tryptophan pentad repeat DNA-binding domain. IRF5 shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. IRF5 can form homodimer when it is phosphorylated. IRF5 functions as a transcription factor involved in the induction of interferons IFNA and INFB and inflammatory cytokines upon virus infection. Genetic variations in IRF5 are associated with susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus type 10. In addition, the genetic variations wil result in susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis.

Mouse Ifng is a secreted protein which belongs to the type I I (or gamma) interferon family. IFNG is produced by lymphocytes and activated by specific antigens or mitogens. In addition to having antiviral activity, IFNG also has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages and has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells. It can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons. Genetic variation in IFNG is associated with the risk of aplastic anaemia (AA) which is a rare disease in which the reduction of the circulating blood cells results from damage to the stem cell pool in bone marrow. In most patients, the stem cell lesion is caused by an autoimmune attack. T-lymphocytes, activated by an endogenous or exogenous, and most often unknown antigenic stimulus, secrete cytokines, including IFN-gamma, which would in turn be able to suppress haematopoiesis.

Stathmin (STMN1), a member of the stathmin family, is also known as Leukemia-associated phosphoprotein p18, Oncoprotein 18 (Op18), Phosphoprotein p19 (pp19), Protein Pr22 and pp17, which contains one SLD (stathmin-like) domain. The function of STMN1 as an important regulatory protein of microtubule dynamics has been well-characterized. Stathmin (STMN1) interacts with two molecules of dimeric α,β-tubulin to form a tight ternary complex called the T2S complex.One mole of STMN1 binds to two moles of tubulin dimers through the stathmin-like domain (SLD).When STMN1 sequesters tubulin into the T2S complex, tubulin becomes non-polymerizable. Without tubulin polymerisation, there is no microtubule assembly.STMN1 also promotes microtubule disassembly by acting directly on the microtubule ends.

Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme E2 K (UBE2K) belongs to the E2 Ubiquitin-Conjugating Enzyme family. UBE2K is highly expressed in the brain, with highest levels found in cortex and striatum, and at lower levels in cerebellum and brainstem. UBE2K may mediate foam cell formation by the suppression of apoptosis of lipid-bearing macrophages through ubiquitination and subsequence degradation of p53/TP53. UBE2K is associated with the selective degradation of short-lived and abnormal proteins, such as the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) of misfolded lumenal proteins. ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 5(ABCB5) is a plasma membrane-spanning protein. ABCB5 is principally expressed in physiological skin and human malignant melanoma. ABCB5 has been suggested to regulate skin progenitor cell fusion and mediate chemotherapeutic drug resistance in stem-like tumour cell subpopulations in human malignant melanoma. It is commonly over-expressed on circulating melanoma tumour cells. Furthermore, the ABCB5+ melanoma- initiating cells were demonstrated to express FLT1 (VEGFR1) receptor tyrosine kinase which was functionally required for efficient xenograft tumour formation, as demonstrated by shRNA knockdown experiments.

CD160 antigen is a Lipid-anchor that exists as a disulfide-linked homomultimer. CD160 contains one Ig-like V-type domain. The human CD160 precursor is a cysteine-rich, glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein of 181 amino acids with a single Ig-like domain. It is weakly homologous to KIR2DL4. CD160 is expressed in the spleen, peripheral blood, and small intestine. Its expression is tightly associated with peripheral blood NK cells and CD8 T lymphocytes with cytolytic effector activity. CD160 is a receptor showing broad specificity for both classical and non-classical MHC class I molecules.
